Comfort-fit feel

Comfort fit is standard on the Titan. Not an upgrade. The texture stays on the outside. The inside is domed so the edge does not dig.

A slightly rounded interior sits more naturally than a flat interior.

It is an 8mm. An 8mm covers more of the finger and fits snugger than a 6mm in the same size. If you are between sizes on an 8mm, go up.

Our rings run roughly 30% thinner than the industry standard profile. They sit flush against the finger and clear a glove without catching. Heavier than a 14k gold band, slightly lighter than tungsten.

Everyday wear

The deep-ground face is a textured finish that wears in with daily marks. A brushed face, or the deep-ground texture on the Titan, hides daily marks better than a mirror polish.

It does not bend like gold. It will dent rather than shatter. It will not shatter if dropped. Tungsten can, on a hard enough hit. Tantalum records the wear.

Wear it. The F1 is the ultralight backup for the gym and the job site. The Titan is the one that earns the marks. The ring you wear every day should not be the one you are afraid to scratch.

Nickel-free on skin

Nickel-free. Inert on skin. Tantalum is nickel-free and biocompatible. It is used in medical implants and in aerospace work because it is nearly impervious to corrosion.

One piece. The gunmetal is the metal. There is no plating to chip, and no coating for the texture to wear through. The gunmetal is the metal itself.

Durability and the gunmetal patina

The Titan is deep-ground tantalum. A textured finish that develops character over time in a way no other metal does. It gets better with age. That is the patina, and on this metal the patina is called gunmetal.

No metal is scratch-proof. Tantalum marks less easily than gold or titanium. It still scratches. Light marks blend into the gunmetal. It does not look ruined. It looks lived in. The color is the metal, so it will not fade or chip the way a plated finish can. Normal wear is not a defect.

Care

Tantalum does not rust or tarnish. It does not react to hand soap, sanitizer, skin oils, chlorine, saltwater, or the chemicals in most cleaning products. Most days, care is nothing. Wear it. Rinse it when you wash your hands. If you work with grit or metal shavings, wipe the Titan with a soft cloth. Debris can work into a textured face and dull it. The wipe is for the grit, not because the metal is fragile.

Deeper clean: warm water, mild dish soap without harsh degreasers, soak about ten minutes, soft toothbrush, rinse, lint-free cloth. Skip paper towels. They leave lint and can scratch the face. Skip sandpaper, steel wool, and polishing compounds. A jeweler's polishing cloth brings a brushed face back. Ultrasonic cleaners are fine on plain tantalum. The Titan is one piece. A mark from day thirty often blends into the gunmetal by month six.

Sizing

These metals do not resize. Measure first. We do not stretch them. A jeweler cannot cut tantalum and solder it the way they would gold. Can tantalum rings be resized.

The Titan is an 8mm. An 8mm fits snugger than a 6mm in the same size. Whole sizes 8 to 12. No half sizes. Measure at the end of the day. Use a ring you already wear, or the $10 ring sizer: a plastic zip-tie, not a paper strip and not string. It should pass the knuckle with a little resistance, then sit snug.

Between sizes, size up. Wider bands feel tighter. Comfort-fit rings often feel better at a half size smaller than you might expect from a flat interior ring. We do not stock half sizes. Wrong size: free exchange for 90 days from delivery. In an emergency, tantalum can be cut with standard ring cutters.

What is included

F1 carbon backup included with this metal band. Every ring except the F1 includes a free F1 carbon fiber ring. The F1 sold on its own does not include a second backup. Ultralight and chemical resistant, for work and the gym.
